Wheel company invents detachable electric bike wheel
Wheel company GeoOrbital has manufactured a cutting-edge electric bike wheel that can be attached to any bike.
Last 2015, GeoOrbital CEO Mike Burton disseminated press releases about the astounding wheel reinvention.
Now, GeoOrbital has launched a campaign with global funding group Kickstarter to accept pre-orders and market the detachable wheel before it commercially debuts in stores. The GeoOrbital wheel can be assembled into an ordinary bike by snapping off the current front wheel and replacing it with the prototype.
In lieu of spokes, the GeoOrbital wheel is built with a triangular housing with three wheels located against the rim. The tinier wheels grab the rim and turn the bike wheel using the 500W motor and 36V battery found inside the housing, according to tech site The Verge.
The GeoOrbital wheel’s maximum speed is 20 miles (32 kilometers) an hour while its detachable battery can go on 50 miles (80 kilometers) with pedaling. Another piece in the wheel, the throttle, handles a strip of lights that tells the biker the wheel’s remaining battery.
In order for the wheel to prevent a flat tire mishap, the wheel is not made from tire but from rigid foam. Overall, the prototype weighs 20 pounds (9 kilos). Gianna Francesca Catolico
