WATCH: AMD makes move toward cheaper VR technology

/ 06:23 PM June 01, 2016

While getting on board the VR bandwagon will still cost you an arm and a leg, US semiconductor company AMD takes one step toward affordable VR with the release of its RX480 VR-ready graphics card, priced at US$199 (P9,287).

To give you an idea of the cost of building a VR system, the Oculus Rift VR Headgear alone costs $599 (P27,956). Add the cost of a processor and graphics card capable of supporting VR, and you have a very big hole in your wallet.

By making one of the key components more affordable, it gives hope that one day mainstream consumers will be able to enjoy VR in the way that we enjoy current smartphones.
