Niantic has just rolled out an update for Pokémon Go that addresses a number of issues that had plagued the game, including the “Nearby Pokemon” feature.

Previously, players only saw a vague indicator of what Pokémon was nearby with no clue as to the distance or at least a nearby landmark to start the search from. Now the Nearby panel has been separated into the two portions, “Nearby” and “Sightings.” The Nearby portion displays the nearest landmark where the Pokémon can be found to give players a clue on where to start hunting. The Sightings area, on the other hand, shows what kinds of Pokémon have been seen around the area.

Neogaff user Toki767 uploaded this screenshot of what Niantic is currently working on for the “Nearby Pokémon” feature.

However, players seem to be seeing different things. Some, including this writer, are only able to see the Sightings tab.

Contrary to what players may think, it looks like Niantic is hard at work in fixing bugs and improving features to make the Pokémon Go experience better. Here are some of the other changes that were included in the update for Android and iOS. Note the slight difference in the update notes where the iOS notice included “We’re currently testing a variation of the ‘Nearby Pokemon’ feature with a subset of users. During this period you may see some variation in the nearby Pokémon UI.”  Alfred Bayle
