Currently leading the ‘clone wars’ is Torrentz2.eu which has already amassed almost 60 million indexed torrents from different sites. Image Screencapped from Torrentz2.eu

As the mystery of why Torrentz suddenly threw in the towel continues to leave question marks, a new clone site has popped up to pick up the slack and continue the work that the site had been doing.

This alternative to Torrentz, aptly named Torrentz2.eu, not only offers the same functionality as the original but even claims to have made a few upgrades, reports TorrentFreak. As of this writing it reports a total of 59,734,272 indexed torrents from over 110 million pages.

This is not the first time a clone has taken over the functions of a downed torrenting site. When Kickass Torrents shut down due its alleged founder being detained by authorities, other clone sites such as Torrentzeu.to and Torrentz.ec tried to jockey for the position that the original Torrentz.eu held but so far none have overtaken the efforts of Torrentz2.eu.

For those who frequently download via torrents, these sites may seem like heaven-sent but be reminded that some of these clone sites may have malicious content or try to get users to divulge their credit card details. While the credibility of the new clones are being still scrutinized, always think twice before clicking on a link.  Alfred Bayle
