WATCH: Hamster ‘Super Mario’ video charms Japanese netizens

Before Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe transformed into Super Mario at the 2016 Rio Olympics closing ceremony, a cute hamster has enamored social media with its athletic portrayal of the classic Nintendo character.

YouTube user Yutako55 has uploaded a short clip of the furry animal playing on a cardboard Super Mario set complete with red bricks and a green pipe.

According to gaming news site Kotaku, the Twitter user created the tiny Mario maze to delight her daughter and her pet hamster.

The clip became viral on social networking site Twitter, with over 14,000 retweets and 14, 900 shares as of Monday. In video sharing site YouTube, the clip accumulated 444,000 views as of its posting on Thursday.  Gianna Francesca Catolico
