‘Candy Crush’ to become a US game show

The toxic and nostalgic game your mom loves to play is “crushing” its way to TV.
American broadcasting company CBS announced on Tuesday that it is teaming up with Lionsgate and King Games to adapt the sugary mobile app into a live-action game show.
According to The Verge, players will compete with gigantic interactive boards in the proposed hourlong game show. Contestants will have to “use their wits and physical agility to compete on enormous, interactive game boards.”
“We are huge fans of Candy Crush and, like so many others, we know the ‘rush’ of advancing to the next level of the game,” said Glenn Geller, president of CBS Entertainment, in a press statement, as quoted by American news sites.
Likewise, the creators tapped Matt Kunitz, producer of the “Fear Factor” saga, to produce the game show. “The Candy Crush franchise lends itself perfectly to the kind of larger-than-life, physical game shows that I love to produce,” Kunitz said. Other details, such as the target airing date and hosts, will be revealed soon.
In a report by Hollywood Reporter, Candy Crush debuted in 2012 with the simple mechanic to match colored candies in a trio or more to earn points and progress in 2,000 levels. The game has two versions, Candy Crush Saga and Candy Crush Soda, both top-grossing with approximately 18 billion game rounds played monthly. Gianna Francesca Catolico
