Evangelion VR experience slated for summer
Bandai Namco Entertainment recently announced development of a virtual reality experience inspired by the “Neon Genesis Evangelion” anime.
The experience will be titled, “Evangelion VR: The Tamashii no Za” (Evangelion VR: The Throne of Souls). It will debut at Bandai Namco Entertainment’s VR Zone Shinjuku center this summer of 2017 reports Siliconera.
This project is the first-ever Eva-piloting experience and will put players in the cockpit of one of the Evangelion units. Players will assume the role of a “temporary pilot” and work with two other allies to take down the 10th angel Zeruel within Tokyo-3.
To enhance the experience, players will be riding “cockpits” that vibrate, tilt and have movable parts to capture the sensation of being inside an Entry Plug while piloting an Eva. The experience even includes the familiar Eva startup and launch sequence.
“Neon Genesis Evangelion” is a popular anime that aired between October 1995 and March 1996. The story is set in a post-apocalyptic Earth where three children pilot giant bio-mechanical robots called Evangelions, to combat monstrous beings known as Angels. The series is known for exploring various concepts relating to psychology and religion.
The VR Zone Shinjuku center is scheduled to open on June 13. For fans of “Evangelion”, this is your chance to experience piloting an Eva first-hand and find out why Shinji just won’t get in the robot. Alfred Bayle/JB
