New 16-core CPUs to be released by AMD this summer

Following up on the success of the Ryzen line of processors, AMD has announced that they are preparing the release of a 16-core (32-thread) processor aptly named Threadripper.
The new CPUs are being targeted for high-end and enthusiast-grade desktop PCs, with summer being hinted as the period for release.
While servers and enterprise machines have long enjoyed the benefit of having high-core-count processors, it’s only recently that home desktops will have this much computing power.
For the time being, price and specifications remain a mystery. It would be safe to say that the 16-core Threadripper will be expensive. However, going by AMD’s history, it should still be somewhat cheaper than its Intel counterpart.
Tech Radar reports that AMD’s current top-of-the-line Ryzen 7 1800X processor costs $399 (rooughly P20,00) yet prices are already beginning to drop.
The Ryzen was AMD’s call to a renewed arms race with long-time rival Intel and it looks like the company is not done just yet. At the end of the day, this renewed competition between these two processor makers can only benefit the consumers in the long run. Alfred Bayle/JB
