WATCH: Techies show how to buy a MacBook for P50
Apple products are known to be quite expensive, especially MacBooks. But security researchers discovered a way to get the price down to as low as $1 (roughly P50).
The researchers who discovered the hack work for a software security company called ERPScan. They claim this security hole as usable on SAP point-of-sale (POS) machines.
These same researchers also uploaded a proof-of-concept video on YouTube to show how easy it is to access POS machines and buy a MacBook for a dollar.
According to the video, the method gives a hacker complete and unrestricted access to do whatever they wish with the prices using a small $25 (roughly P1,250) Raspberry Pi computer.
The statement published on ERPScan’s website said that the method exploited missing security checks in a SAP POS Xpress server. Once a tool like a Raspberry Pi computer has been connected to a POS device, hackers can get to work remotely through the internet to change prices as they wish.
Fortunately, a patch for these SAP POS machines have been made available since August 21. They advised retailers to quickly update their SAP POS solutions. JB
