WATCH: ‘Mega Man 11’ blasts into modern gaming by 2018

Fans may expect the new Mega Man 11 to come out for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in late 2018.

The announcement came in time with the celebration of Mega Man’s 30th anniversary on Dec. 4.

The “Mega Man Legacy Collections” 1 and 2 will also be available for the aforementioned platforms.

Initially known as “Rockman” by the Japanese, the first game in the franchise had its Japan debut in 1987 for the Nintendo Family Computer game console. Capcom’s then consumer products division president Joe Morici later changed the name to “Mega Man” because he reportedly thought the original title is horrible.

Since then, Mega Man grew to become one of the gaming world’s icons. The Mega Man franchise spawned numerous games across different gaming platforms, which includes the Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Mega Drive, Sony PlayStation, PlayStation Portable, Nintendo GameCube, 3DS, Wii, Wii U, and even on smartphones.

In “Mega Man 11”, the game will maintain the side scrolling perspective while immersing a 3D sprite of Mega Man in a rich and high resolution backdrop.
