The “Baby Shark Challenge” thank you video, a children’s music video originally uploaded on YouTube in June 2016, dominated the top trending videos in the Philippines this year.
The sensational Baby Shark video by Pinkfong, a South Korean digital content creator for children, went insanely viral this year with netizens of all ages dancing to the beat and joining the fad.
In a press release, YouTube Rewind hailed Pinkfong’s video for clinching the number one spot for the site’s top trending videos this year.
“Pinkfong created and uploaded this video to thank viewers for making the original Baby Shark clip into a YouTube hit,” according to the site.
“In the thank you video, the kids in the original Baby Shark video danced to a much faster beat of the song accompanied by a large group of people and mascots,” it said.
This was followed by the lyric video of television network ABS-CBN’s summer station ID, “Ikaw ang Sunshine Ko, Isang Pamilya Tayo,” which was viewed by more than nine million YouTube users.
The network’s younger talents, composed of Pinoy Big Brother housemates, iT’S Showtime Tawag ng Tanghalan finalists, and other teen stars, took center stage in the summer video.
College student Dara Mae Tuazon, who went viral early this year, also graced the network’s station ID with her advocacy to teach street children.
The Voice Teens Philippines’ blind audition where 17-year old Mica Becerro of General Santos City performed a powerful rendition of “Queen of the Night” from the opera “The Magic Flute” came in third.
