MANILA, Philippines -- HP remains the world’s biggest PC vendor after garnering an 18.8-percent share based on IDC data, a statement from the company said.
HP cited data from IDC’s 2007 report released Thursday. According to IDC, HP’s total units shipped grew 30 percent from the previous year. HP said it grew at 23.3 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter alone.
Meanhwhile, IDC estimates total PCs shipped last year at 269 million, or a growth of 14.3 percent. These latest IDC data puts HP ahead of rival vendors Dell, Taiwan's Acer and China's Lenovo.
According to latest IDC data as of Q3 last year, the total PC market (desktops and notebooks) in the Philippines reached more than 250,000 units.
IDC's local office, however, does not issue vendor rankings. Overall, growth rates remain strong compared from the previous year, said Omar Carlos, market analyst at IDC Philippines.
“Especially in Q3, because most of the vendors -- including HP and Acer -- launched new laptops during this period,” he said, asked for comment via telephone.
IDC Philippines is currently compiling its Q4 numbers and expects market figures to remain strong.
