Video a new way to express, test ideas, say RP bloggers

TAGUIG CITY, Philippines -- Filipino bloggers believe that video blogging is another inexpensive and yet viral way of expressing even testing ideas.
Manuel Villoria creates mostly how-to videos online to help people understand Filipino culture, among others.
“The great thing about the Internet is that it allows us to express ourselves in different ways, in print, photos and through videos. It is also an inexpensive medium that allows us to reach as many people as possible. It also helps us to test ideas and see what works. And it is great fun too [doing video blogs],” said Villoria.
Villoria was among the local video bloggers who attended a “Meet and Greet” event with Filipino-American video blogger Christine "Happyslip" Gambito, now an online video celebrity thanks to her wacky depiction of family-inspired characters on YouTube and in her own website.
Villoria said the fans and bloggers who mobbed Gambito were proof that there is an increasing interest in video bloggers and blogging.
In a separate interview, Filipino video blogger Coy Caballes admitted that he started doing video blogs because of Gambito.
“She's my very inspiration why I started video blogging,” said Caballes in the sidelines of the event with Gambito. The event was organized by the Department of Tourism and Internet portal Yehey!
Caballes, also known as Coksiblue, describes himself as an aspiring maker who also happens to be a computer science student at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
Saying that he was a shy person, Caballes said his video blog is one way to "share a part of you to people."
"Bata pa ako, gusto ko na gumawa ako ng movies. Kahit hindi ko magawa [When I was still young, I wanted to make movies. But since I can't do it] professionally, I can still do it as a hobby. The Internet is really the new medium. If you want an audience that will hear you, and if you want your thoughts and creativity, the Internet is the perfect place," Caballes said.
More than a hundred Filipino bloggers and fans mobbed Gambito during the event at Mag.net cafe on Bonifacio High Street in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
