SUBIC BAY, Olongapo City -- Convergys Corp. announced its acquisition of a Shanghai-based software company, a move aimed at generating more business from the Asia Pacific telecom market.

The Ohio-based contact center operator said it is acquiring Shanghai Hong Xun Software, which markets its products under the name BMI Asia.

The acquisition is expected to close within the second quarter this year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Convergys said BMI Asia's software allows service providers to support next-generation services including voice over IP and video-on-demand. China Netcom uses the company's software to support some 30 million subscribers, according to Convergys.

In a statement, Bob Lento, president of Convergys' information management business, said the acquisition will help expand the company's Infinys customer management solutions, including CRM (customer relationship management) and billing.

Lento added the acquisition will help Convergys target service providers in the Asia Pacific market, adding: "This is the fastest growing global market with $39 billion in revenue and 20 percent annual growth rate in the wireless market."

Convergys employs se 11,000 workers in the Philippines, located in eight delivery centers. The company will open its ninth facility in Bacolod City in Negros Occidental province.
