MANILA, Philippines--A school in Davao del Norte that used one computer to train many students and a regional center that developed an interactive training module for school administrators were among the Philippine entries that were cited in recent United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) awards.
Julito Aligaen of the Asuncion National High School won in the "Education Planner and Administrator" category in the UNESCO ICT in Education Innovative Practices Awards.
The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization regional center for educational innovation and technology (SEAMEO INNOTECH) in Quezon City also received commendation for its interactive modules used to train school administrators in the Southeast Asian region.
The Philippines had a total of 10 entries, according to the UNESCO website.
The Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) also won a commendation for a project to digitize non-formal education in the country. The CICT was recognized under the non-formal educator category.
The UNESCO commendation is one of several awards given to initiatives and projects that make use of information and communications technology in education.
A total of 146 entries were considered for the awards.
