Corporate blogging remains in its infancy in RP

MAKATI City--Corporate blogging is still in the early stages in the Philippines, a search engine marketing expert and a local company has said.

Blogging, however, is one way companies can build and manage their online reputation, said Dustin Andaya, founder and marketing director of Islandrose.net, the online e-commerce portal of Philippine Cut Flower Corporation (PCFC) and a company that has been "consciously" building its reputation online.

"You have to start early," Andaya said, as he explained that Islandrose.net initially relied on "organic links" to attract people to its website.

As more people use search engines like Google to find information on the Internet, local companies should put more effort to build their online reputation through blogging or other online means, Andaya said.

Hans Koch, search manager at Syndeo Media, said local companies are not yet taking advantage of the power of search engines to help them promote their corporate websites or blogs.

Koch, who is engaged in the business of search engine marketing, said that local companies can help boost their web traffic if they engage search engine marketing experts to improve the design and content of their blogs or websites.

Andaya said that there is an increasing number of Filipino bloggers, but he could not say how many corporations are now using blogs or websites to promote their business.

Koch and Andaya were among the experts present at a forum on corporate blogging and online reputation management hosted by the Asian Institute of Management and the Ayala Foundation.
