RP consumer market good for all-in-one PCs

MANILA, Philippines ? Chinese computer maker Lenovo is looking to grow its market share in the local PC market with the addition of new all-in-one desktop models.

The company recently introduced the B500 series AIO desktop, a follow up to its high-end A series and entry-level C series.

Michael Ngan, Lenovo Philippines Country Manager for Consumer Business, said that while there is still a very large market for stand-alone desktop computers, many consumers are looking at all-in-one models (or AIOs) largely due to space requirements and ease of management.

?People don't want to hassle themselves to set up a home computer and putting all the cables in. In some cases, they just want to pull out their PC from its box, plug it in to the power supply, and start using it,? Ngan said.

Ngan also noted that the AIO also creates new markets in the Philippines especially with computer gaming enthusiasts who want to have the best experience on a slim desktop PC. ?We have already proven the success of the A and C series and we want to replicate it with the B series,? he said.

The Lenovo B500 is powered by either an Intel Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad processor. It has a 4 Gigabyte memory that can be doubled up to 8Gb, and has a 1 terabyte hard disk drive. The graphics card is a 1 Gb NVidia GeForce GTS 250, making it ideal for gaming and graphics-heavy users.

The B500, which has a standard 23-inch LCD monitor, can start with a price tag of about P49,000, depending on the specifications.

Meanwhile, Lenovo Philippines Country General Manager Vicky Agorilla said the company performed better locally this year 2009, especially in the SMB market.

Agorilla said some of their strongest products are its ThinkPad SL410 and SL510 notebooks, as well as its ThinkCentre A58 and M58 desktop for SMBs.
