MANILA, Philippines – The government-backed contact-tracing app, StaySafe.ph, has adequate safeguards to prevent any misuse, or abuse of the data of Filipinos who had registered for the app, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.
Former Communications Technology Undersecretary Eliseo Rio Jr. had pointed out the limitations of the app’s privacy protocols and its ability to conduct contact tracing of possible new coronavirus cases.
“There are enough safeguards,’’ Roque said. “Our cyberlibel law will be the ultimate protection for the people. So if it is used for espionage, that will be a basis for criminal prosecution,” he said.
