MANILA, Philippines – Chinese hackers targeted Friday night the official newspaper website of the Philippine Star, but the publication’s technical staff denied its site was hacked.
Reports had it that around 10 p.m. hackers identifying themselves as Chinese defaced the index page of www.philstar.com .
A huge image of Chinese flag with the Scarborough Shoal, one of the islands disputed by the Philippines and China, as background splashed the Philstar’s main news page.

Contacted by Inquirer.net, a member of the technical staff denied their website has been hacked and said: “Let us wait for the official statement of the management regarding this, but we won’t say we were hacked.”
