PLDT Inc. and subsidiary Smart Communications have blocked some 3,011 sites featuring the sexual abuse and exploitation of children in compliance with the orders of the National Telecommunications Commission, a statement on Wednesday showed. “When users try to open these malicious materials that are on our network blacklist, our child protection platform will automatically redirect them to a landing page that informs them that the files they’re trying to access violate the country’s antichild pornography law,” said Angel Redoble, PLDT first vice president and chief information security officer. Another key partnership was with the United Nations Children’s Fund, which paved the way for the roll out of its own child safeguarding policy. —MIGUEL R. CAMUS
