Google has announced that a forthcoming update to its Maps mobile app will let users find COVID-19 vaccination sites nearby. The application already shows nearby covid-19 testing centers.

This new functionality, announced by Google CEO Sundar Pichai in a blog post, means that Google Maps will soon show vaccination sites with important details. It is gearing up for roll-out in the U.S. first of all, with the rest of the world following shortly afterward.

Sundar Pichai also announced that Google will be making its spaces — such as buildings, parking lots and open spaces — available for vaccination clinics, notably in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

COVID-19 testing centers are already shown in Maps, simply by typing phrases like “coronavirus testing” or “Covid-19 testing” in the application search bar. Then, add the name of a town or city to see the list of testing sites with their details (address, phone number), opening times and busy/quiet times. NVG
