TOKYO — The Tsukiji Outer Market in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, has begun streaming YouTube videos showcasing some of its nearly 460 eateries, fishmongers, and other shops.

The famed shopping street launched its YouTube page Tsukiji TV on May 2 and plans to upload a new video each day at around 6 p.m. for 100 consecutive days.

Running about five-minute long, clips include interviews with shop and restaurant managers as well as tips for cooking bonito, Mother’s Day gift recommendations and more. Some of the food products introduced in the clips can be ordered online from the Tsukiji Outer Market’s website.

Tsukiji TV is managed by Tsukiji Shoku no Machizukuri Kyokai, a nonprofit organization comprised of shop owners and others.

“We hope our food will send an encouraging message and help buoy peoples’ spirits during the coronavirus [pandemic],” said Takao Suzuki, who heads the nonprofit.
