MANILA, Philippines — A social media post by Facebook founder and chief Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday about his pet goats drew speculation from cryptocurrency fans across social media platforms.

Zuckerberg posted a photo of his goats with the short caption: “My goats: Max and Bitcoin.”

While it might seem like a random post about goats named after his daughter Maxima and the world’s biggest cryptocurrency, the crypto community online thinks there might be a deeper meaning behind it.

Several crypto fans interpreted Zuckerberg’s choice of name for his goats as a possible hint of endorsement of the digital currency.

Meanwhile, Twitter users and crypto enthusiasts Nigel D’Souza and LilMoonLambo both suggested that the post might be connected to the upcoming Facebook annual shareholder’s meeting.

“Mark Zuckerberg just shared an image of his goats: Max and #Bitcoin. Facebook’s Annual Shareholder meeting is on 26th May,” said Souza, who also works as an anchor and associate editor for CNBC-TV 18 – a business news channel in India.

“What’re the odds of him announcing any holdings in the upcoming meeting? Person shrugging,” he added.

On the other hand, LilMoonLambo, who has over 90,000 followers tweeted: “You have two weeks to accumulate as much $BTC as you can before Mark Zuckerberg announces that he and Facebook have purchased Bitcoin during their annual shareholder’s meeting.”

The co-founder of Morgan Creek Digital Assets, Anthony Pompliano likewise made the same conjecture.

“Is Mark Zuckerberg telling us he is a bitcoin maximalist with the names of his goats?” he asked.

Speculations about Facebook buying Bitcoin were also tied by some to the company’s failure to launch its digital currency, Libra, and plans to re-launch its rebranded version called Diem.

However, both Zuckerberg and his company have yet to make an official announcement regarding the said theories.
