The local government of Koronadal City in Mindanao tapped Globe to provide digital solutions for communications, connectivity, telehealth, and fintech services as it journeys to become a more digitally inclusive and sustainable community.

Under the “One Digital Koronadal” partnership with the Koronadal City LGU, Globe’s enterprise arm, Globe Business, provided 2,000 free TM 5G Prepaid SIM cards loaded with GCash credits to provide the city’s residents with reliable access to high-speed mobile data and financial services like sending and receiving GCash credits, paying bills and a lot more.

Each SIM card also comes with free 3-month access to GoHealth, a prepaid healthcare plan powered by Pacific Cross and KonsultaMD, to ensure the health and well-being of the recipients. Koronadal City constituents were given GoHealth35 plan which entitles them to health coverage including P5,000 emergency in-patient treatment due to Cancer, P1,000 emergency in-patient treatment due to accident, P500 emergency in-patient treatment for other covered illnesses, and seven teleconsult sessions.

Globe also provided the LGU with P50,000 worth of Automatic Mobile Message Blaster (AMBER) credits, which will be useful to swiftly send out local advisories to help the community prepare for disasters and to learn about new services available to the local citizens.

Last year, Globe and the City of Koronadal also signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to make affordable internet access available through GoWiFi and KonekTayo WiFi.

Driving Sustainability for Koronadal City through Digital Adoption

Koronadal City and Globe will work together to improve the city’s digital literacy, financial inclusion, emergency preparedness, and community health and well-being.

“Through our partnership with Globe, we are eager to make headway in our journey toward a more sustainable economy by embracing digital adoption in different industries,” said Hon. Eliordo Bebot Ogena, Koronadal City Mayor.

The deployment of 5G-powered SIM cards and WiFi hotspots across the city will help make high-speed internet, online services, and digital content more widely available and accessible to the public. This will contribute to various community needs such as better distance learning experiences for parents, teachers, and students; support for the continued development of agritech to empower farmers to achieve better yield and higher sales; and ways to improve public service as a whole, by ensuring safety and increased productivity of the LGU workforce.

Meanwhile, access to GCash will help boost financial inclusion among the LGU population, many of whom don’t have bank accounts but still need a way to easily transact online. The local government can also use it to fast-track the disbursement of financial aid to those who need it the most. GCash also expands access to low-cost financial services that can jumpstart livelihood and other economic opportunities.

With AMBER and connectivity services, Koronadal City stands resilient against emergencies and disasters. Aside from delivering quick community alerts, AMBER also helps the LGU manage its multiple COVID isolation centers and newly set up evacuation centers to keep the effects of the pandemic and other natural disasters under control.

Lastly, access to health coverage and telemedicine through GoHealth35 means everyone can be cared for, no matter where they are located. Healthcare becomes more accessible to more citizens, and the interaction between patients and medical providers is made easier and more efficient as well.

“We forge partnerships with government institutions and the private sector to support and sustain economic growth through digital adoption. As a customer-first company, our products and services are designed to help bridge the gap in digital transformation for the benefit of the public and the country,” said Peter Maquera, Senior Vice President for Globe Business, Enterprise Group.

Globe supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 9 in particular, which emphasizes the importance of infrastructure and innovation as significant drivers of economic growth and development. Globe has pledged to advocate the 10 United Nations Global Compact principles and 10 UN SDGs.
