Telosa City: An Urban Oasis in The Heart of The US Desert

Billionaire Marc Lore wants to revolutionize the modern city model with his upcoming Telosa City.

It is a massive 150,000-acre city in the middle of the desert. Contrary to popular belief, Lore believes that he does not aim for a utopia.

The plan’s website says Telosa is “firmly grounded in reality and what is possible.” How would he build his dream city into a reality?

Marc Lore announced his plans for Telosa City in September 2021.

He wants the urban sprawl to cover a 150,000-acre area roughly the size of Chicago.

The idealist billionaire initially intended to construct the city in the American desert or the Appalachian region.

However, the project’s leaders changed the location after a recent town hall. Consequently, they chose three potential locations for Telos City: Utah, Nevada, or Arizona.

The lead architect Alana Goldweit explained in a video what the urban project would look like.

She said it would have 36 mixed-use districts allowing residents to reach necessities in a 15-minute walk.

Telosa City would have a public green space throughout the middle of the city, allowing convenient access to nature.

Moreover, the plan includes organic skyscrapers, community parks, and zooming monorails.

The team hopes to have roughly 50,000 residents in this smart city by 2030. Then, they want a million by 2050 and five million by 2070.

How would these people live in a desert? Lore said it would store, clean, and reuse water on-site.

Telosa City would run on renewable energy to increase sustainability and stay environment-friendly. Also, autonomous vehicles will eliminate traffic and keep the streets safe.

Marc Lore will also use a new economic model for his urban dream called “Equitism.”

It would allow the foundation managed by residents to own the city’s land. As its value increases, the group could sell plots and leases to fund an endowment for Telosa.

Then, it could offer social programs like accessible education, healthcare, and job training. The team believes “as the city does better, the residents do better.

Conclusion

Billionaire Marc Lore plans to build an equitable and futuristic urban space in the desert. However, critics warn of the challenges the project must overcome.

For example, Sharon B. Megdal, the University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center director, said that providing a reliable water supply will be difficult.

Of course, any ambitious project demands taking bold and risky moves. Learn more about the people building a better world with technology at Inquirer Tech.
