MANILA, Philippines—The Office of the Vice President (OVP) denounced the attack on its site Tuesday night, saying they called for greater cybersecurity.
“Their action bolsters the call for greater protection and security not only for government sites and data but even personal data from intrusive, abusive, and in some cases, criminal behavior,” Joey Salgado, OVP spokesperson, said in a text message to INQUIRER.net.
A group of hackers called PrivateX defaced on Tuesday night the OVP site, leaving a message that protested cyber-security as a threat to freedom of information.
Vice President Binay’s website hacked
The attack came after Binay called for a strong Philippine response to cyber threats at the closing ceremonies of the Seminar Towards ICTD and Cybersecurity Enhancement at the National Defense College of the Philippines in Quezon City Monday.
Salgado could not say who were behind the group. He said the site has been attacked four times since 2010.
“No sensitive information was compromised but it has denied overseas Filipino workers and the public access to the site,” Salagado said.
