A man in the Philippines uses a robot to order bubble tea in Singapore. On March 3, TikTok user FrodoBots showed how he did it in a minute-long clip.
He remotely controlled a robot on wheels to order a drink from a HeyTea store in The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands.
As a result, the TikTok video gathered more than 140,000 views and 9,400 likes at the time of writing.
How did the robot order milk tea in Singapore?
The clip starts with the device driving to the mall’s automatic doors. However, it couldn’t enter Marina Bay Sands because the sensors couldn’t detect it.
Fortunately, a person went through the doors, buying time for the robot to slip past. It made its way to the bubble tea counter and encountered another obstacle.
The man controlling the robot tried to get the staff’s attention by saying “Hello” through its speakers. Yet, the employees did not notice the device.
Eventually, one of the staff members noticed the device, but he couldn’t hear what the robot was saying.
Fortunately, a kind stranger approached and asked the robot, “What are you saying?” Then, he relayed the robot’s order for a roasted brown bobo.
“Bobo” has a negative meaning in the Philippines, but it refers to milk tea in other countries. Specifically, it points to the chewy black bubbles in the cold drink.
The robot seemingly forgot its digital wallet, as it had no way to submit a cashless payment. Instead, it had a physical wallet that contained the robot’s payment.
The stranger helped the machine by passing the money to the staff. Later, the man controlling the robot asked, “I wanna know if the order for the roasted brown bobo is ready.”
The helpful customer took a moment to tell the robot that its queue number was 266 before exiting HeyTea with his drink.
Finally, the staff member placed the roasted brown bobo in the robot’s basket, completing the robot’s mission!
