In line with its Net Zero commitments, Globe is taking strides to green its supply chain, starting with its Globe At Home modem packaging.

Beginning Q2 2023, Globe At Home will be introducing a recyclable and upcyclable packaging design for its Fiber product. The business aims to shift 100% of its modem packaging to recyclable materials by the end of the year.

The move is part of Globe’s ongoing commitment to sustainability by operating responsibly, creating positive societal and environmental impact, and advocating for Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) adoption within its operations.

The new packaging features the following sustainable attributes:

Globe At Home’s shift to a recyclable and upcyclable packaging can also help reduce carbon emissions associated with its production and end-of-life by minimizing resource use and limiting the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.

“By closely engaging our vendors, we are able to make this significant move with our partners and collectively create a more sustainable value chain. We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting climate action and promoting circularity, and are delighted to be on this journey with our customers,” said Jepay Vallejo, Assistant Vice President – Product Management, Globe At Home Broadband Business.

Globe At Home’s initiatives complement the company’s recent announcements on green network operations and other climate action efforts. The company was also recently recognized as the Most Sustainability-Driven Network in the Philippines by independent market research firm Standard Insights for its efforts in championing climate action.

The digital solutions platform has implemented significant changes to its network equipment such as transitioning to more energy-efficient and eco-friendly options. To date, it has deployed over 9,000 green network solutions since 2014. Part of its network modernization strategy is to continuously explore and invest in sustainable and innovative network equipment to drive network optimization and energy-efficiency, and reduce operational carbon emissions.

The company is also committed to renewable energy (RE), with 25 key sites operating on RE via Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) bundled with Renewable Energy Certificates (REC). By purchasing RE from Retail Electricity Suppliers (RES), it hopes to encourage more investments in clean energy to support the Philippine government’s sustainable development agenda.

Globe has also invested in electric vehicles, including the launch of EV employee shuttles and the pilot of electric scooters for employee transport.

Globe is the first Publicly Listed Company (PLC) in the Philippines to commit to set science-based targets through the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) and a participant in the UN-backed Race to Zero global campaign, supporting the call to reduce global emissions by 50% by 2030 and create a healthier, fairer, zero-carbon world by 2050. At the same time, it is dedicated to delivering innovations that address Filipinos’ daily pain points while promoting sustainability and the government’s sustainable development agenda.
