Acer Philippines pulled out all the stops for Acer Day 2023, with a solid line up of musical acts for the #AceYourWorld concert that thrilled the 15,000-strong audience, both at the jam-packed SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City and online, on Aug. 6.
“Popstar Royalty” Sarah Geronimo set the tone for the evening with an explosive opening performance of her latest singles “Cuore” and “Alam.” The momentum kept going with the spirited follow-up from K-pop idol and former 2NE1 member Dara, who made her official Philippine stage comeback at the concert.
Together with dancers from GForce, the Korean star sang “Festival,” the lead single to her self-titled solo debut mini album. It was her first time to perform the song before a Philippine audience. She also traced her Filipino show biz roots with her quirky ditty, “In or Out,” then gave an encore performance of the massive 2NE1 hit “I Am the Best.”
The “DonBelle” tandem of young stars Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano sent the arena swooning with their duet of John Roa’s “Byahe.” SB19, the phenomenal P-pop quintet who performed in last year’s concert, had to skip Acer Day 2023 because of their world tour. But they sent their well wishes to their Acer family in a video.
Up-and-coming Filipino band Sunkissed Lola sent the crowd on a singing frenzy with the breakout hit “Pasilyo” and other songs, while pop-alternative rock group December Avenue delivered an extended set that included their hit songs “Kahit ‘Di Mo Alam,” “Kung ‘Di Rin Lang Ikaw,” and “Sa Ngalan Ng Pag-Ibig.”
Rock band Mayonnaise delighted the audience with their repertoire of both fun and heartfelt songs such as “Bakit Pt. 2,” “Tayo Na Lang Dalawa,” and “Jopay,” while young singing sensation Zach Tabudlo brought the feels with his self-written online hits “Give Me Your Forever,” “Pano,” and “Binibini.”
Interactive performances
Sponge Cola and Ben&Ben brought the audience up on their feet with their interactive performances. The rock band’s frontman, Yale Yuzon engaged the audience with fun video instructions, and even climbed on a crew member’s shoulders to get closer to the crowd. Paolo and Miguel Benjamin of the nine-man folk-pop band kept a steady connection with the spectators, and even got down from the stage to mingle with the guests.
The arena transformed into a sing-along club with Sponge Cola’s “Pasubali,” “Kay Tagal Kitang Hinintay,” “Bitiw,” and “Jeepney,” and Ben&Ben’s “Sa Susunod na Habang Buhay,” “Kathang Isip,” “Maybe the Night,” and “Pagtingin.”
Former Eraserheads frontman Ely Buendia closed the show with a medley of the iconic band’s hits “Alapaap,” “Toyang,” “Pare Ko,” “Spolarium,” “Ligaya,” “Magasin,” “Superproxy,” “With a Smile,” and “Huling El Bimbo.”
“We chose a line-up that Filipinos of different generations will enjoy so everyone can watch the concert and have a great time,” said Acer Philippines Senior Marketing Manager Princess Laosantos.
Fans got tickets to the concert through contests on Facebook and Twitter, or purchases from Acer’s Back-to-School promo, that entitled the customer to a concert ticket and a P500-pledge to the GreenEarth Heritage Foundation.
“This concert is not just an anniversary celebration but a way for Acer to give back to the community by staging a memorable event that brings all the hottest musical acts in town,” said Acer Philippines General Manager Sue Ong-Lim.
