MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is envisioning the Philippines as a “hub for digital innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Marcos made an appearance via hologram at the 2023 Singapore FinTech Festival, where different policy, finance, and technology communities meet. He called the event a “global platform for sharing learning and cooperation.”

Marcos said initiatives like the Go Digital Pilipinas, a private sector movement that forwards digitalization in the country, are promising endeavors.

“Numerous public-private partnerships are also aimed at keeping pace with the rapidly evolving ICT (information and communication technologies) landscape. The Philippines is likewise cementing its position as a hub for digital innovation and entrepreneurship with the dynamic startups scene that holds immense promise,” said Marcos in his speech.

“We invite you to look at these startups and explore potential partnerships to ensure our mutual growth and shared prosperity,” he added.

According to the President, the country recognizes the growing presence of digital banking but also emphasizes the importance of inclusive finance.

“That is why we are putting great emphasis on the digitalization of all cash flows regardless of amount or scale so that Filipinos can start building a digital profile,” said Marcos.

While Marcos delivered the speech digitally in Singapore, he was in the United States for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit.
