MANILA, Philippine–Hundreds of thousands of users of Meta platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, experienced a global outage Tuesday night that left them unexpectedly logged out of their accounts.
The issue led to a significant number of reports and discussions on social media as users worldwide found their newsfeeds empty upon attempting to log back in, devoid of the usual posts, photos, and updates.
The disruptions started around 10:00 am ET (11 p.m. Manila time), with more than 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook and about 40,000 reports for Instagram, according to tracking website Downdetector.com.

X (formerly Twitter) quickly became a hub for those affected to share experiences and seek information about the outage, with users from various countries indicating that the problem was widespread and not confined to a specific area.
American user Thomas Brantley, known as TJ on X, remarked, “Facebook just crashed.”
“Di ko na ma-open Fb at messenger ko. anyareeee????” said @shaynerkive.
Several employees of INQUIRER.net also reported the incident.
“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a post on X social media.
Meta’s status dashboard showed the application programming interface for WhatsApp Business was also facing issues. There were around 200 reports of outages for WhatsApp on Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources, including users.
X owner Elon Musk took a jab at Meta, saying, “If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working.”
