Technology is changing how we do everything in our lives. Tasks that require minutes or hours of attention now only need seconds of automation.

That is why more experts criticize the global state of modern education, including Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The tech billionaire shared his views during a recent non-profit economic think tank Milken Institute conference.

Yahoo Finance shared a few important details from a discussion between Milken Institute chair Micheal Milken and Elon Musk.

The SpaceX CEO said teaching remained fundamentally the same over his lifetime. It involved an adult standing in front of a chalkboard instructing children.

“You don’t want a teacher in front of a board,” the tech entrepreneur argued. 

“The way teaching more typically works is ‘We’re going to teach you a course on screwdrivers and a course on wrenches,’” Musk added. 

He says kids often don’t see the relevance of the subject matter. As a result, their brains would filter it out as useless trivia, forgetting what they learned.

Musk says the education system failed them because teaching staff typically lacked the skills to impart essential knowledge to students. 

He compared modern teachers to vaudeville entertainers who traveled from one backwater to the next. They offered their meager services to those desperate for amateur entertainment.

“The way education works today is really much like vaudeville before there was radio, TV and movies,” the Tesla exec explained. 

Then, Hollywood joined forces with the most talented actors, screenwriters and directors to produce compelling content costing millions of dollars.

The thespians entertaining locals with their low-budget rendition of Batman can’t compete with Christopher Nolan’s take on the caped crusader. “That’s how teaching works today,” he claimed.
