This new function marks another AI integration trend as Microsoft and other companies let customers use AI without the internet.

What’s Apple Intelligence?

On June 10, 2024, Tim Cook told the world his company would focus further on “AI” or “Apple Intelligence.” it refers to its proprietary suite of large language models and generative technologies.

Later, the CEO turned over the stage to Apple’s Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi. He explained how the technology will improve iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

The new AI program will understand how you speak and write so that it can re-write, proofread, and summarize text automatically.

It will also create images, such as a cute version of your friend having a birthday bash, and share them on the Messages app.

Apple Intelligence will also improve Siri, letting it search and interact with your files and apps without the internet.

For example, say, “Pull up the files my co-worker shared with me last week.” In response, Siri and your operating system will find what you need.

Kelsey Peterson, Director of Machine Learning and AI, demonstrated the digital assistant’s new tricks. AI allows Siri to retain context during conversations and handle verbal corrections.

In other words, this AI assistant will remember what you’re talking about and adjust its speech whenever you correct it.

It also has on-screen awareness, meaning it can “see” what you’re looking at on your phone. That means you can issue commands depending on your opened media or app.

Apple Intelligence will also offer a text-to-emoji AI generator called Genmoji. Also, the Image Playground app will let you experiment with prompts and small images.

The best part is future iPads, iPhones, and Macs will offer these AI features without an internet connection. If Apple Intelligence encounters a command it cannot handle, it will pass the query to the Private Cloud Compute servers.
