Robovan is a pleasant surprise in Tesla’s ‘We, Robot’ event

Tesla CEO Elon Musk unveiled a prototype of his company’s latest vehicle: the Robovan.

The Robovan turned heads during Tesla’s We, Robot event on October 10, with its unique and sleek design.

The tech billionaire says the vehicle will have 20 seats and can adapt to commercial and personal use.

What are the Robovan’s promised features?

“What happens if you need a vehicle that’s bigger than a Model Y?,” Musk mentioned during his speech. Then, a Robovan prototype rolled up in front of the stage.

The vehicle looks like what people in the 50s would consider futuristic. It has silver metallic slides with black details highlighted by light strips.

Later, its doors opened like a train’s, and passengers began disembarking, revealing the car’s interior. Business Insider says it has white seats and a TV at the back.

“We want to change the looks of the roads,” Musk said, referring to his self-driving prototype.

“The future should look like the future,” he added. Also, he said the Robovan is for high-density usage, such as ferrying sports teams.

“This can carry up to 20 people and can also transport goods,” the tech leader said.

However, he did not specify the product’s price and release date during the event.

Musk discussed building a van years ago. In July 2016, his blog post, “Master Plan, Part Deux,” mentioned the EV industry must go beyond producing sedans and SUVs:

“In addition to consumer vehicles, there are two other types of electric vehicle needed: heavy-duty trucks and high passenger-density urban transport.”

“Both are in the early stages of development at Tesla and should be ready for unveiling next year.”
