What we know about the iPhone Fold: Apple’s entry into foldable phones

Apple’s long-rumored iPhone Fold is starting to take shape, and the recent wave of leaks and releases around the internet means we’ll be closer to official word from Apple a lot sooner than we think.

Apple interestingly first touted their foldable back in 2020. Then it just kept getting pushed back but it’s looking like 2026 is finally the year. Often referred to as the iPhone Fold or possibly “iPhone Ultra,” the device is expected to launch in 2026, with most reports pointing to a September window alongside Apple’s usual iPhone cycle.

When opened, the device reportedly features a display close to 7.8 inches with a 4:3 aspect ratio, with Apple’s focus appears to be on display quality and durability. Reports suggest the company is working on reducing the visible crease and improving hinge reliability, which have been common issues in earlier foldable devices. The hinge itself is expected to use more durable materials, with some leaks pointing to a titanium-based or a sleek aluminum design.

Early dummy models and design leaks show a thicker body compared to standard iPhones, along with a noticeable camera bump. This lines up with typical trade-offs in foldable hardware, where internal components and hinge mechanisms take up more space.

On the camera side, the device is expected to use a more streamlined setup, with multiple cameras. The recent 48 MP Fusion Camera on the 17e was already a great camera but expect even greater things set for the iPhone Fold.

Pricing is expected to land in the premium range, as with most Apple products. We’d guess it will be around the price of the Pro Max, give or take. Nothing is set in stone quite yet, but the Cupertino tech giant is definitely going to be making headlines in Q3 or Q4 as they make their awaited splash in the foldable market.
