Google highlights Gen Z creators at Search Day

MANILA, Philippines – Google invited Gen Z creators and student leaders to the Google office in Taguig to expand their experience with Google Search on May 29.

After identifying Gen Z as Google Search’s most active users, Google used Search Day to promote other Search features.

Google Search as a “travel bestie”

Google Search’s update to integrate AI mode allowed a more conversational way to use Search.

This positioned Search as a digital travel companion, helping users find places to eat or new spots to explore.

Google encourages users to go beyond prompts like “nearest destinations.”

Now, users can ask Search in a more personalized tone with prompts such as, “Can you find nearby hangout spots that aren’t too crowded, have great food, and are only a short walk away?”

To demonstrate this, Google’s Search Day sent Gen Z participants outside the office to use AI Mode and Search Live.

Organizers grouped participants to create Search-powered travel itineraries around BGC inspired by different countries.

“This initiative is a follow-up from the round table that we did in April,” said Mervin Wenke, Head of Communications and Public Affairs of Google Philippines.

“We wanted to create an experience wherein Gen Z creators will really put the AI search to a test, and we’ll really see firsthand experience of using it to design a travel itinerary amongst other things,” Wenke added.

Search Live as a shopping buddy

Search Day further emphasized Gen Z’s use for Search Live. The feature has Gemini detect and analyze the image in view.

Google created Search Live to serve as a shopping assistant, cooking companion, and tool for defining objects or landscapes.

AI Mode and Search Live combined is Google’s way of having a digital intelligent partner.

“We want to create awareness about the new evolution of search as an intelligent partner,” said Wenke. “You can now have back-and-forth intuitive conversation, research, and it feels like talking to a friend.”
