In another first for the Inquirer Group, the Philippine Daily Inquirer launches on Monday the Inquirer Tab, a tablet device bundled with an all-titles subscription to the group’s Digital Newsstand for computers, tablets and smartphones.
Powered by Google’s Android operating system and made by Huawei, the Inquirer Tab comes free with a two-year subscription to over 60 Inquirer newspapers, magazines and e-books.
The subscription plan costs only P33.05 a day through a special 24-month, zero-installment plan with The Bank of the Philippine Islands credit cards (non-BPI cardholders can still get the free tablet promo through straight payment).
The titles available on the Inquirer Tab are: The Philippine Daily Inquirer; Cebu Daily News (normally available in full only in Cebu); Bandera (all three editions—Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao); Inquirer Libre; Sunday Inquirer Magazine; Junior Inquirer; Inquirer Golf; Look; Cocoon; Baking Press; F&B World; Urban Living; Southern Living; Game!; Klik; Multisport; Northern Living; Turista; Varsity Action; The 2012 SONA: The Speech and Special Reports; Soul BGC; The Promised Land: Hacienda Luisita; Books of Prayers—Mula sa mga pahina ng Inquirer Libre; Coconut Calvary; Pinnacle; Heart 2 Heart: Si Lorna, Si Tess at Si Mando; Timpla; MultiSports Sourcebook; Signature Dishes Cookbook; No Free Lunch; With Due Respect; The Corona Impeachment (multiple volumes).
Many of these publications are only fully available in digital form on the Inquirer Newsstand.
The Inquirer Tab is also a fully functional tablet. Inquirer Tab users can check e-mail, update their Facebook profiles, tweet, post on Instagram using the tablet’s camera, play games and make calls and send text messages (with an appropriate SIM card).
The Inquirer Tab subscription can also be extended to four additional devices—desktop computers, notebooks, as well as other tablets and smartphones so an entire household can make use of the subscription. The Inquirer Newsstand has apps for Apple iOS, Android, Blackberry Playbook and Windows 7 devices.
In addition to credit card payments through BPI, the Inquirer Tab is available to companies that wish to go paperless in their subscriptions. Employees of the Social Security System were among the first to avail themselves of the Inquirer Tab corporate subscription last week.
