The petitioners are composed of 18 Filipino bloggers, social media organizations and netizens.
The law, which has a higher penalty for online libel, also allows simultaneous prosecution for the same offense for violation of the Revised Penal Code.
Republic Act 10175 also authorizes collection of data sans court order and gives the Department of Justice the authority to block accounts it deems to be violating the law.
The petitioners said the cyberlaw, which took effect October 3, violates the right to due process, equal protection clause, freedom of speech, unreasonable searches and seizures and protection against double jeopardy.
