Manila Bulletin news website redirected to critics of Cybercrime law

MANILA, Philippines – The homepage of the news website of the Manila Bulletin has been redirected to a site created by a group known as “Pixel Offensive”, which has criticized President Benigno Aquino III for approving Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.

Its website www.mb.com.ph when accessed, is redirected to https://www.facebook.com/PixelOffensive, the Facebook page of Pixel Offensive.

After the approval of RA 10175, netizens have been up in arms calling against what they branded as “e-martial law.”

Several petitions have been filed with the Supreme Court urging it to declare several provisions of the law as unconstitutional.

Early this week, several government websites were defaced as a form of “hacktivism” against the Cybercrime Law.

Other defaced websites were the Official Gazette, Senate and Congress, Police Community Relations Group (PCRG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP), the Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Philippine Information Agency and Food Development Center.
