MANILA, Philippines – The INQUIRER.net, the online news website of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, celebrated 15 years of working together to bring news, not only to Filipinos in the country, but also to all Filipinos worldwide.

“This year we are reaping the rewards of the success and we are able to declare that we are number one,” Paolo R. Prieto, president of Inquirer Interactive Inc, said during the celebrations Thursday.

“Advertisers and readers alike are all keen on the success of INQUIRER.net,” he added.

Marixi R. Prieto, the chairperson of the IGC board of directors, said that the success of the online website could be attributed to the number one standing of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

“I know that what is on the [online site] comes from the print and so we are one whole group of companies. Being number one is important because now we match our print which is number one [in the country],” she said during her remarks.

“It is because of the help of all the different people in our different companies that we are where we are,” she said.

Mr. Prieto praised the board of directors of the IGC for their full faith and trust in the online website which has it to become the leading news source for Filipinos worldwide.

“I think the faith of the board on INQUIRER.net is something that we should all be thankful for because even during those times when the Internet wasn’t as successful as it was, they still kept on believing and that’s carried on today,” he said.

Marixi emphasized the need for all the companies under the IGC to work together in the spirit of convergence to become a stronger group.

“Like Paolo said, [in] 15 years [we have] been striving, but I think we are there. And to continue being there, we all have to work together,” she said.

“Our target to become a group of companies helping each other all the way,” she added.

Utilizing the worldwide reach of the Internet, INQUIRER.net posts breaking news in real time and uploads stories and articles from the Philippine Daily Inquirer for Filipinos around the world. It has added videos to its content for a more visual delivery of the news.

INQUIRER.net was launched in1997, with Gary Libby, PDI’s vice president for Info-Tech and Pre-Press, and Associate Editor Abel Ulanday at the helm.

When Libby and Ulanday returned to PDI, the news website was renamed to INQ7.net after Inquirer forged a partnership with GMA7.

After the partnership between the Inquirer and GMA 7 was dissolved, Inquirer became sole owner of the website and brought back INQUIRER.net in 2007.
