Comelec launches educational video on campaign violations

MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has released an educational video showing examples of campaign violations and urging the public to report them to the poll body.

The two-minute video features “Boy Bawal,” Comelec’s “poster boy against campaign violations,” and Comelec Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. The video was produced by the Education and Information Department (EID), Comelec said in a statement Monday.

In the video, “Boy Bawal” comically goes around the neighborhood looking for campaign violations such as oversized posters and illegally placed election propaganda and placing a big “bawal” sign on the prohibited election material.

Near the end of the video, Brillantes calls on the public to report all campaign violations that they see to the Comelec.

“A request has been sent to all networks for the airing of the ‘Boy Bawal Ad’ as part of the Comelec Space and Time for the May 13, 2013 Elections to be utilized exclusively for public information dissemination on election related-concerns,” Comelec said in a statement.

The video is part of Comelec’s initiative for citizen’s participation in reporting potential campaign violations.

The public may also tweet any violations they see to @Comelec and using the hastag #SumbongKo
