MANILA, Philippines – The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) launched its Twitter and Facebook accounts Tuesday as the Philippine National Police continued to look for ways to make reporting of crimes easier for the public.
Using Twitter handle @NCRPOReact, and Facebook account NCRPOReact, Chief Superintendent Marcelo Garbo Jr., NCRPO director, said the move was to “bridge gaps in timely, accurate reporting of crimes.”
Garbo said he has designated the Chief, Regional Tactical Operation and Intelligence Center (RTOIC) to supervise and monitor 24/7 the implementation of these programs.
He assured the public that all information and complaints received would be addressed immediately hence a system for report and feedback was instituted. All SMS sent and posts via twitter and Facebook accounts will be acknowledged by dedicated personnel and concerned police units will be required to take action.
PNP chief Alan Purisima said the idea of police going online was prompted by reports that a significant number of crime victims did not report to authorities because of inaccessibility
“If the public has concerns about police, they can report it on social media,” Garbo said.
Garbo said all validated information would form part of the monitored crime volume of the National Capital Region.
“In due time, we will require regional offices to come up with their Facebook, Twitter accounts,” Garbo said.
