MANILA, Philippines—The National Bureau of Investigation will formally ask the National Telecommunication Commission to instruct the telecommunication companies to provide them with certain information in combatting cyberpornography.
Virgilio Mendez, NBI director said “the lack of access to telcos’’ has hampered the agency’s campaign against cyber-porn.
“We need their cooperation to arrest the operators of the cyber pornography and to eventually stop the illegal trade in the Internet,” he added.
The cooperation of the telecoms companies, he said, would play a bigger role in apprehending cyber-porn operators.
“We need exact addresses and location for legal court documents,’’ he explained.
Mendez added that countries like the United States and Australia have offered to help in the fight against the cybercrimes.
“We have sufficient human intelligence, we just need more sophisticated tools to quickly pin the location of the illegal activities, he added.
Mendez also said that operations against several targets have been ongoing but declined to reveal these areas.
“Suffice to say operations are on-going and we will surely get them, but we also need all the help we can get,’ he said.
