MANILA, Philippines – Netizens went down the memory lane Thursday when rumors circulated that the hit Asian telenovela “Meteor Garden” would make a comeback this year.

The excitement stemmed from a teaser video titled “Meteor Garden: The Ultimate Throwback” saying that the hit show would return to ABS-CBN.

Turns out the Taiwanese series that started the trend of Asian telenovelas in the country was confirmed to return in the television network. But the network has yet to reveal the date of airing.

Twitter users were abuzz with the news that the hashtag #MeteorGarden trended on Thursday.

This was not the first time the show made a comeback since it first aired in 2003. ABS-CBN’s rival network GMA-7 acquired rights to air the Taiwanese soap opera in 2007.

The hit Taiwanese show tells the story of a poor teenage girl Shan Chai (played by Barbie Hsu) who fell in love with Dao Ming Si, the leader of an elite group F4. The members of the F4 – Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan), Hua Ze Lei (Vic Chow), Mei Zuo (Vanness Wu) and Xi Men (Ken Zhu) – were heirs to influential Taiwanese businesses.

The actors playing F4 became instant heartthrobs when the show first aired in 2003. They also had their hit band songs and singles that topped music charts.
