MANILA, Philippines—A new born puppy stuffed in a sack of dog food by a dog pound caretaker caught the attention of netizens, sparking outrage of many animal rights advocates.

The local government of Pasig is now being bombarded by calls to fire caretaker and institute steps to end cruel treatment of animals in the city.

The photo, which was posted on the Facebook page of the Justice for Dogs at Pasig City Pound, was shared by The Barking Army on its Facebook page.

The Barking Army is an international group of animal rights advocates that started in 2011 when it called for saving Romanian dogs from being killed.

After posting the puppy photo on its website, reactions flooded in.

“Why is this person considered ‘caretaker.’ He should not even be allowed near the building,” Pauline Rotteau-Grass said in The Barking Army’s Facebook page.

Tamara Llenos said “the caretaker should be punished and kicked out.”

Tonya Croschere and Wendy Nelson called the act “sick.”

The group also posted other photos of dead and injured dogs from the Pasig Pound in its page.

An online petition was also created calling for Pasig City Mayor Maribel Eusebio to act on the cruelties committed inside the animal shelter.
