MANILA, Philippines—Apple recently offered free battery replacement for iPhone 5 batteries, which are experiencing “shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently.”
According to the website of the technology giant, the worldwide battery replacement program was launched after it has found out that a “small percentage” of iPhone 5 units are experiencing battery problems.
Apple said in a statement that affected units were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall under a limited serial number range.
In order to qualify for the program, the unit should exhibit the said “symptoms,” should be in working condition, and the battery’s serial number should fall under the specified serial number range.
Users should check the serial number of their batteries on the Apple website to see if it they are eligible for the program.
The replacement program does not apply to iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S.
Apple will begin replacing the batteries of affected units worldwide, excluding United States and China, on August 29.
Apple also clarified that it will not extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 5.
