MANILA, Philippines―A new bitcoin mobile application is set to make sending money, online shopping, and buying cellphone load easier and more accessible for Filipinos.
Launched by Coins.ph Tuesday, its new mobile app allows users to buy and sell bitcoin through their phones. Apart from the said feature, the app also allows users to send money to anyone in the Philippines through their phones.
Bitcoin is a form of “cryptocurrency”, or digital currency, used to pay online transactions.
“With our bitcoin wallet, customers enjoy similar perks to those they would get from having a bank account, minus the barriers for setting one up. Most importantly, keeping a Coins.ph wallet is free,” said Coins.ph CEO Ron Hose.
Hose said that the app caters to the Filipino clientele as the app does not need to be linked with an existing bank account to work. He noted that 75 percent of Filipinos do not have bank accounts.
According to the Coins.ph CEO, their app aims to cut the “high” costs of banking transactions for Filipinos who only have low savings.
