MANILA, Philippines–Parallel Planets is an independent web-based zine made by and for creative people from all over the world. Over the first year of its publication, it has featured and interviewed over 130 artists, filmmakers, musicians, photographers, and writers from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe, France, Israel, Japan, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, and several others.
To mark its first anniversary, it recently launched a 60-day crowdfunding campaign via IndieGogo to finance its first issue on print, as well as give its current website a major upgrade.
“To say that we are happy in the creative galaxy we’ve built is an understatement – we thrive and take pride in it, but we are also starving to make it grow further and reach farther,” says founder and editor-in-chief Erin Emocling.
“Parallel Planets is but a speck in the vast universe that we’re driven to explore, but with a little push, we hope to be able to create a tangible and tactile reading experience for our readers. Our goal is to make this a lasting venture, so that we can keep producing printed issues regularly while also paying back our contributors,” says Emocling.
“However, we’re not going to take all the help that we can get without giving something back. As our small way of showing gratitude, our supporters will receive a number of exclusive, limited, and possibly personalized Parallel Planets merchandise,” adds Emocling.
As for the content of its first issue, Emocling says they intend to take their readers into the very essence of Parallel Planets: monochrome matters, parallel perspectives, and spatial subjects, all masterfully rendered through the pens, lenses, and instruments of their favourite artists whom they’ve featured in the past year. Likewise, their team is also set on producing special articles and photo essays to complete the creative mishmash that they envision Issue Nº1 will be.
