MANILA. Philippines–A teenager in China chopped his hand off to cure his Internet addiction, according to a report of The Telegraph.
The report said the 19-year-old from Nantong in Jiangsu province severed his left hand with a kitchen knife.
“We cannot accept what has happened. It was completely out of the blue. He was a smart boy,” his mother, who refused to be identified, was quoted by The Telegraph.
The mother said she went to her son’s room late evening and found out that he was missing.
She said she found a letter on the bed where his son is supposed to be sleeping.
“Mum, I have gone to hospital for a while,” the letter read. “Don’t worry. I will definitely come back this evening.”
The son, who was known only as “Little Wang,” took a kitchen knife out of the house and severed his left hand.
Doctors tried to reattach his hand but were unsure if he could use it again normally, the report said.
It said 24 million teenagers in China are addicted to the Internet. NC
