MANILA, Philippines – Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg has said that Internet would be more accessible to the public after the launch of Internet.org in the Philippines Thursday, which allows the public to go online for free.
“We’re one step closer to connecting the world as we launched Internet.org in the Philippines today,” Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post.
Internet.org, however, is only available to Smart, Sun Cellular and Talk ‘N Text subscribers and other subsidiaries of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT).
“Now everyone in the country can have free access to Internet services for health, education, jobs and communication on the Smart network,” Zuckerberg said.
Internet.org application is an initiative of Facebook, which allows access for free to at least 24 websites featuring education, news, health, sports and entertainment contents as well as Facebook and Facebook Messenger using their smartphones.
INQUIRER.net is among the 24 partner websites of Facebook.
Zuckerberg, in his Facebook, posted a photo of Jaime, “a driver in Manila who uses Facebook to keep in touch with his loved ones who moved to Dubai.”
